Hope for the ocean

The ocean is a powerful source of climate solutions. Ocean-based climate solutions could provide a fifth of the greenhouse gas emission reductions needed globally to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C. There is reason for hope and need for action when it comes to the ocean and climate change.

On World Oceans Day, President Biden committed to developing and creating America’s first ocean climate action plan and now we have the opportunity to call for a bold, ambitious Ocean Climate Action Plan that will help the Administration reach its climate and justice goals. Between now and November 18th, the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) request input to inform the plan’s development that will help guide and coordinate actions to address ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes-based mitigation and adaptation solutions to climate change.

The Healthy Ocean Coalition helped in the collaboratively-developed Blueprint for Ocean Climate Action, which is well-suited for this request for input. Help us by raising your voice today in support of the Blueprint and the actions it contains as the basis for the Ocean Climate Action.
